Gamagori Udon This udon dish is a specialty of Gamagoori City in Aichi Prefecture. Several years ago, a movie called Gamagori Never Island was made on location in Gamagoori. At that time, a youth group of the Gamagoori Chamber of Commerce and Industry offered the cast members udon which included clams, a local specialty. Because the udon dish was so popular with the cast, they suggested to the town that it be produced on a commercial basis. There are five definitions in gamagori udon. 1. At least five or more of the local speciality clams are needed per serving. 2. The shell as well as the clams add great flavor to the soup stock. 3. The soup has a soy sauce base. 4. The dish must include one of 5 Gamagoori specialities (sesame oil, mehikari fish, nigisu fish, seaweed or fish paste). 5. If wakame seaweed is not chosen as one of the 5 specialties, then it must be included. The savory taste of clams is very delicious and the noodles are chewy. Gamagori udon received the Grand Prize at The Third Nationwide UDON Summit and Udon Expo 2014. This udon is filled with the passion of Gamagoori City which has the sea, the mountains and hot springs. More and more tourists have come to Gamagoori to taste this wonderful udon.
